About this project

Bianca Czichy from Tumorzentrum Freiburg-CCCF am Universitätsklinikum is responsible for this project
As the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF, we want to improve the treatment options for patients with cancer.
To do this, we conduct translational research, which means that we offer the results of basic research and new
approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer directly to our patients as part of clinical studies,
thereby opening up new healing opportunities for them.
The CCCF is involved in the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK), which includes eight locations
in Germany and whose core center is the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg (DKFZ). In order to achieve the goal
of bringing basic research to the patient's bedside, we work together in collaborative research projects, are involved
in modern cell research and molecular medicine, and in conducting phase I/II clinical studies. The CCCF also operates a
biobank with 20,000 tissue samples that are made available to researchers, and a clinical cancer registry in which all
patients treated here and the success (or failure) of certain therapies are recorded and evaluated anonymously.
Oncological and immunological research is brought together in the Center for Translational Cell Research (ZTZ). In
recent years there have been important breakthroughs in immunotherapy for cancer. New standards are being set here with
regard to knowledge about cancer formation and development, early diagnosis, cancer prevention and novel treatment
approaches.
Research costs a lot of money. Particularly when it comes to rare cancers, the pharmaceutical industry is understandably
less interested in funding such research projects.
That's why the Cancer Center Freiburg - CCCF is happy about every contribution, no matter how small, to the enormous
project of finding effective methods for treating all types of cancer.
