Mare Liberum e. V. documents human rights violations and border violence against fleeing and migrating people in the Aegean Sea. On the life-threatening escape route between Turkey and Greece, migrants are regularly pushed back by the authorities using violent methods to prevent them from reaching Europe. In many cases, even those who have already come ashore on the Greek islands are denied their right to asylum by being illegally dumped back into Turkish waters.
We want to oppose this deadly border and migration policy of the EU and set a sign of resistance against this border violence. As independent observers, we document testimonies of people who have survived border violence and research the life-threatening operations of the border patrols. Moreover we publish our findings in reports to draw attention to the current situation at the European external border. The goal is to strengthen fundamental human rights. Responsible actors should be held accountable and safe escape routes should be established.
Mare Liberum is politically and religiously independent and financed by donations. Support us with your donation to document human rights violations at the European external border and to draw attention to the marginalized perspectives of people fleeing. Together, let's set a sign for a policy of solidarity for refugees in Europe!
