About this project

We started our studio in 2011 with a small hot shop for glassblowing, and thanks to generous donations, we were able to expand our space to include other techniques.
In 2015, we expanded our youth program to include fusing workshops for younger children, particularly for the New Berliner (refugee) community. This technique involves decorating a glass plate with layers of colored glass, which are then fired overnight at 780°C to create colorful artwork. It's safe for kids as young as 8 and incredibly inspiring for creativity!
We wanted to reach beyond our local neighborhood, so we offered workshops to public schools, youth organizations, and refugee homes across Berlin. However, accessibility was sometimes an issue. In January 2017, a refugee home in Bernau, a suburb of Berlin, asked us to bring the materials to their facility. We decided to build a cart, which we called the Kiez Mobil, and since October 2017, we've been using it to bring workshops to different communities around Berlin. Our goal is to offer 2 workshops a month, and we need your help to make it happen!
We need support to keep the Kiez Mobil project going, including maintaining our supply of clear and colored glass, purchasing new cutters and tubs for storing glass, covering the energy costs for the kiln, and providing subway and bus tickets for the instructors, as well as their fees. Your donation will ensure that we can keep these workshops alive and thriving, and we appreciate your consideration!
