About this project

Ronald from XENION - Psychosoz. Hilfen für politisch Verfolgte is responsible for this project
Unaccompanied minor refugees flee to Germany in search of protection and the hope of a better life.

Every day, 6-7 unaccompanied minors arrive in Berlin (as of January 2023), in 2022 over 3,200!

akinda - Berliner Netzwerk Einzelvormundschaften für unbegleitete minderjährige Geflüchtete (Berlin network for individual guardianships for unaccompanied minor refugees) has been searching for, training, placing and accompanying committed volunteers who take over guardianship of unaccompanied minor refugees for 25 years. During the guardianship, akinda advises and supports the guardians and their wards and accompanies the young adults and their former guardians within the framework of sponsorships.

The experiences of the young people are characterized by vulnerability and courage, disappointment and hope. Many of them have had traumatic experiences of flight, suffer from a precarious residence situation, the expectations placed on them and uncertain future prospects. They all need a reliable legal representative who will take care of accommodation suitable for children and young people, prepare the asylum application, select a suitable school or register them with clubs. And he/she spends time with the young person, is attentive to him/her, and helps with all questions, worries and problems.

For the unaccompanied minor refugees, the personal contact with individual guardians, tailored to their individual needs, establishes a new, stabilizing relationship of trust. Individual guardians ensure an improvement of the living situation through their legal representation and their commitment. For the volunteers, the experience with refugees and the reality of their lives in Germany represents a personal enrichment that makes them immune to right-wing slogans and hostile thinking.

akinda - Berliner Netzwerk Einzelvormundschaften is a project of the association XENION - Psychosoziale Hilfen für politisch Verfolgte e.V.

akinda has the vision to offer all newly arriving unaccompanied minor refugees the opportunity of a voluntary individual guardianship. For this we are always looking for new interested people, but we also need your financial support!
