    About this project

Niko K. from Initiative Solidarische Welt Ilmenau (ISWI e.V.) is responsible for this project
The “International Student Week in Ilmenau” is a conference voluntarily organised by students for students. It differentiates itself from similar events through its large content base. The main goal is to offer an open platform for participants from all around the world to get to know each other and to exchange their opinions and ideas for solutions to current issues.

ISWI 2019 is dedicated to the topic of tradition and transition. In this constantly changing world, we are yet shaped by structures, behavioral patterns and views that we did not develop ourselves; many of them have rather been passed down upon us through generations. Driven by the tension and the apparent contradiction between tradition and transition, we want to shed a light on it by bringing this topic to global dimensions.

For each ISWI, we attempt to attract well-known experts and groups in order to examine specific facets of the main topic in more detail and inspire group work as well as further discussion. For this purpose, we invite speakers from all around the world who are noted for their dedication and experience, and ask them to speak about various topics and give an insight into their work.

The general concept is completed by a cultural section which aims to give all participants the possibility to get to know each other and each other’s cultures. We attempt to connect each activity to the overarching theme and let this theme influence the activities. We have planned, along with several partners, the following activities for ISWI 2019, among others:

    • Opening Party
    • Thuringia Experience Day
    • World Food Festival
    • Theme Night 'Time Travel'
    • Movie Night
    • Open-Air Concert

High costs are a natural consequence of the high quality events we are attempting to organise in order to make this ISWI a special experience for everyone involved. However, as a non-profit organisation we do not collect an entry fee for the conference or for participation in any of the events. Therefore, we attempt to cover the costs through grants, contributions from trusts and donations.

Assist us in making this conference possible and help us with a donation. We have listed a few of our expenditures under the “Needs” heading. Feel free to contact us in case any questions about our needs or events should arise. We will gladly answer as quickly as possible.
