    About this project

Andrea B. from ABURY Foundation gGmbH is responsible for this project
Unemployment in Morocco especially of women is extremely high. One of the reasons is that they don't have a good school education. Illiteracy is one of the main problems in Morocco - approx. 30% of the over 15-year olds are still illiterate. This quota is getting much hiegher in rural areas - especially for women and girls - still today about 40-50% of women in rural areas are illiterate - and therefore have no possibility to enter the workforce.

Since centuries leather working is one of the main crafts in Morocco. In and around Marrakesh you find the "shoukara" a very delicately hand embroidered leather bag with a long tradition. But the industrialisation and mass production have pushed the traditional craftmanship almost completely away.

The goal of the ABURY Foundation is to preserve the old crafts and at the same time offer the women (and men) living in rural areas a possibility to work, earn money and become self-sufficient within their traditional surrounding!

With your donation you enable a young moroccan woman to become a master craftwoman in leather embroidery. You don't give money, but pride, self-confidence and independence to these women. at the same time - these women keep a tradition that was about to get lost. Help us to give these young women a longterm perspective to feed their family and live a better life.

With only 200 Euros the full training of a women can be financed.
