    About this project

Maike Striffler from Jangu e.V. is responsible for this project
Support families Mpigi District, Uganda with food and other essential supplies during this COVID 19 crisis .

    THE PROBLEM
Social Distancing being a luxury that only a few can afford! Going by recent statistics  83% of employment in Uganda is in the informal sector, with no opportunity to work due to the COVID-19 lock down. "Hunger knows no shame nor fear" - if not well handled this will leave many Ugandans in civil strife but imagine those families living with children . While many governments should be prepared to play a much bigger role to subsidise living conditions particularly for those in the informal sector, in Uganda that could be a luxury that our government cannot afford .

    OUR SOLUTION:

Five social enterprises from Social Innovation Academy (http://socialinnovationacademy.org)

Uganics: provides purely organic, mild scented mosquito repellent to eliminate Malaria in Africa (https://www.uganics.org)
Gejja Women Foundation: is a community based women cooperative in Mpigi District to economically empower marginalized girls and women. (https://www.facebook.com/www.gejja.org/)
Reform Africa : transforms plastic waste bags into sustainable, durable, water proof and affordable bags. (http://reformafrica.org)
Ouroots Africa: provides natural and sustainable alternatives to single use plastics. (http://ourootsafrica.com)
WeGanda: is a self-organised empowerment and innovation centre to support Women to face and deal with their daily life challenges. (https://web.facebook.com/Wegandas/)

are collaborating to support families in Mpigi District with food and other essential supplies for a 3 months during this COVID 19 crisis.

We are responding to the current COVID 19 crisis by offering food supplies and other essential items like cooking oil , sugar , salt , tea leaves , onions , maize and millet flour ,rice , multi purpose soap, multi purpose biodegradable washers / cleaners and reusable sanitary towels : all these come in big hamper. Through the purchase of food, we try to support local farmers within Mpigi District to generate an income. Other essentials: like soap, biodegradable washers and reusable sanitary tools are products, that we as social enterprises produce.
