In a makerspace, the usual mode of operation is that everyone pays for used material on their own. But expendables, repairs and improvements need to be bought together. Examples are a heated bed for a 3D printer (to be able to print more/different materials), replacement drills, etc.
From time to time we also need new tools and devices.
