About this project
The low yields have caused families to take one meal per day impacting negatively not only on the health of people but also reduced level of income since weak people do not have the required energy for adequate production.
Lack of adequate income has made it difficult for parents/guardians to support their children in higher learning institutions. The girl child has suffered more in here because in a situation of scarce resources, the boy child is given opportunity to advance with studies while the girl is opted for early marriage.
“Poverty reduction is the bottom line for improving people’s living conditions and it is not only a regional or national priority but rather a global concern”.
This project if implemented will contribute to reduction in environmental degradation in Pakwach, Panyango sub-counties respectively and Pakwach town council. The project will also create an environment where people can increase their food, Cash crop and livestock yields, Create jobs and increase household income. This will result in a significant improvement of living conditions for people in Jonam.
Education standards will improve when parents/guardians are able to meet scholastic material requirements in schools that provide quality education.
The farming community have appreciated the knowledge and skills Village Voluntary Venture continues to impart through trainings with input support. Much as the traditional farming practices continue to be largely practiced, farmers are beginning to adopt the appropriate farming practices being advocated. The increase in rate of adoption is as a result of increase in yield for those who have followed the recommended practices. Agroforestry technology is one that will increase farmer’s yield in Jonam County in Nebbi District.
Both our present life and our children’s future will depend on peaceful treatment of the whole earth. Jonam community therefore, aims at solving the problem of land degradation through enabling land users to become good stewards of their environment.
Objectives:
1. To create awareness in 30 villages on the importance and need of conserving the natural environment to increase crop and livestock production per unit area of land.
2. To train and facilitate 50 farmers on tree crop management from nursery to field establishment.
3. To train and facilitate 65 farmers on improved management of small animals (poultry, goats, sheep and rabbits)
4. To encourage 350 farmers to adopt organic farming practices.
