A Sanctuary to Feel Good // About Us and Pauline’s World

The Wohlfühlhof Zeh is a sanctuary for animals where former dairy cows can live a species-appropriate, peaceful, and pain-free life. At Wohlfühlhof, located in the beautiful Allgäu region in Germany, there are currently 23 cows, 8 cats, 7 goats, 25 hens, 2 roosters, and 4 ducks, all of whom will spend the rest of their lives in our respectful and safe care. Our animals are not required to serve a purpose or achieve anything to have a right to exist in this world. They are simply allowed to be animals who enjoy their lives—just as naturally as we humans do.

From Dairy Farm to Animal Sanctuary

Originally, this was a dairy farm that Hans-Peter took over from his father as a third-generation farmer. The so-called "livestock farming"—even the term itself—was something that troubled Hans-Peter all his life until he decided to exit the business of exploiting his animals.

“I was always aware that something was terribly wrong on a farm. But what exactly was wrong only became truly clear when I took over the farm myself and had to decide over life and death. It tore me apart, and I couldn’t continue like that.” Hans-Peter's personal journey from dairy farmer to sanctuary owner is documented here for further reading.

2013: Pauline Was the Last!

Pauline was the last cow Hans-Peter brought to the slaughterhouse. Her spirit now lives on at Wohlfühlhof. With the founding of the sanctuary, Hans-Peter found the courage to follow his intuition, despite many personal risks and the break with a nearly 100-year-old family tradition, to end the exploitation of his animals. He exited the dairy business and finally gave his animals the life they deserved: a life without suffering and exploitation, and instead, a life filled with love, empathy, and a future.

Why Do We Need Support?

Animals need a lot of care, attention, and work, which is associated with high financial costs. As a non-profit organization, we rely on donations to keep the sanctuary alive and to continue our work. The donations are proven to benefit the animals 100%.

Let's show that change is possible! The animals need us!
