    About this project

David Lebuser from SUPR SPORTS gGmbH is responsible for this project
SIT'N'SKATE is a skate project by and for wheelchair users. In regular Safe Space skate programs around Hamburg, children and young people in wheelchairs can playfully learn how to handle their wheelchairs.

    BACKGROUND
SIT'N'SKATE was launched in 2016 by wheelchair users David and Lisa Lebuser. Both are successful WCMX professionals and act as role models for the young participants in the events. The SIT'N'SKATE initiative has been offered by SUPR SPORTS gGmbH since 2020.

    PROBLEM
Children in wheelchairs are at a disadvantage compared to non-disabled children of the same age in terms of their mobility and personal radius of action. They are too rarely trained to control their wheelchair properly. Unfortunately, there is a lack of offers to promote mobility.
Furthermore, access to many types of sport is severely restricted, especially those that are independent of clubs and locations. There is also a lack of visible role models in wheelchairs who can inspire and motivate children with disabilities.

    TARGET GROUP
SIT'N'SKATE is primarily aimed to children and young people in wheelchairs. Origin, religion or disability are irrelevant.

    SOLUTION
The core offer of SIT'N'SKATE are free and regular wheelchair skate programs in Hamburg and the surrounding area, which enable children in wheelchairs to become more mobile and independent. In this safe space, important skills can be learned through play and a sense of achievement builds self-esteem and increases motivation. A community is created that supports each other and appreciates the progress made.

In the summer months, there are additional sessions and inclusive skate jams where the northern German WCMX community meets up and everyone skates together.

    IMPACT

    Participants
Participants learn to control their wheelchair better, which greatly increases their personal radius of action. The WCMX sport also has positive effects on the body and mind. Apart from that, WCMX training is great fun!

    Parents
The parents of participating children also benefit enormously. They often accompany their children to WCMX training sessions. Gradually, they learn to let go (in the truest sense of the word) and trust their child more.

    DONATIONS
Donations are an important component for us to finance this basic offer. The donations are used to pay for trainers, travel expenses and purchases such as helmets, wheelchairs or skateboards, or to keep them in good condition.
