KUNST IN DER KLINIK (ART IN THE CLINIC)
This is a project for young patients in the Westfälische Klinik für Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie in Marsberg, NRW, Germany. Every summer holiday young patients have the opportunity to express themselves in colour, stone, film, words etc., helped by professional artists. Their works are shown to the public at the end of the workshops.
The Workshops
2002 and 2009 stone sculpturing with Astrid Raimann, sculpturer, 2003 videoworkshop with film producer Besime Atasever, 2004 Comic-workshop with comicauthor Julia Drinnenberg, 2005 building and playing string puppets with metal sculpturer Kordula Klose, 2006 and 2008 water colour painting with Christina Stoschus-Schumann, painter, 2007 creative writing and improvisation theater with Arzu Toker, writer. The workshops are no extra therapy but present an atmosphere of open atelier, "real" craft/art work in contrast to the everyday life of the young patients of therapy, school, clinic and beeing ill.
Intentions
Expressing and playfully/creatively managing their very own feeling and view of the world in a special situation of life. By means of the art, taught by artists. The exhibitions at the end of the workshops help to change prejudice and fear from psychiatry and psychiatric patients.
Background
KUNST IN DER KLINIK wants to recall those mentally handicapped and psychologically disturbed children, who have been killed by Nazi doctors in this clinik. As a living monument this project is directed at the future and celebrates surviving.
