Theresienstadt. The Legacy of The Girls of Room 28

    Room 28 e.V.
A project from Room 28 e.V. in Berlin, Germany
One of the tasks of our NPO is to carry the legacy of "The Girls of Room 28, L410 Ghetto Theresienstadt" into the future. We do this by means of a multimedia educational project and cultural projects like the current Ukrainian Brundibár project.

    About this project

Hannelore Brenner from Room 28 e.V. is responsible for this project
Room 28 is a symbol and program for us. Despite all the misfortune, a positive signal emanates from this place, the Girls' Home L410, Room 28, Theresienstadt Ghetto: the invitation to reflect on artistic achievements, humanistic ideals and values and to fill concepts such as humanity, solidarity, art and spiritual resistance with life. Between 1942 and 1944, Jewish girls lived in Room 28, most of whom were murdered in Auschwitz-Birkenau. Some of the survivors joined forces with the author Hannelore Brenner to create a Jewish-German project of remembrance (Room 28 Projects). It includes the book, the exhibition, the play The Girls of Room 28, the publications of Room 28 Edition and an international educational project. Since 2007, the NPO has supported many projects that evolved from this joint venture.

One of our central tasks is to tell the story of these girls to young people and carry it into the future. This is achieved through the Exhibition and our Room 28 Educational Project presented in the Compendiums. Since 2004, the exhibition has been shown at over 70 locations in Germany Exhibition venues and abroad:

On 12 October 2023, we sealed an official school partnership with the Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium in Dahn. A project partnership was just agreed with the Ilse-Löwenstein-Schule in Hamburg for 2024-2025. In 2021 a common school-project started with the Stiftung gegen Extremismus und Gewalt in Heide. We organize workshops, scenic readings, conferences and much more.

The open need Ausstellung (Exhibition) is intended for a new exhibition for Hamburg.
The open need Personelle Stärkung (personnel strengthening) is to establish a professional team.

With the Ukrainian children's book Brundibár project, we are sending a signal of solidarity with Ukraine. The manifest "What is Jewish?" as well as the blog entry on 7 October 2023 shows in a nutshell what we stand for.
