    About this project

Flüchtlingsrat Bremen from Flüchtlingsrat Bremen is responsible for this project
On March 5, 2021, Qosay Sadam Khalaf and a friend were stopped in Wollepark by two Delmenhorst police officers. Qosay ran away, his friend was handcuffed to a park bench. The police officers attacked Qosay with pepper spray. The paramedics refused to give Qosay water and first aid despite the obvious injury, even though Qosay said he could not breathe. The officers dragged him to police custody, where he fell into a coma. On the evening of March 6, 2021, Qosay died in hospital in Oldenburg as a result of the violent police action. His family and friends are shocked, stunned and infinitely sad.

After Qosay's death, the public prosecutor's office in Oldenburg initially did not investigate the circumstances of the crime. Only after the family's lawyers filed a criminal complaint investigations were initiated against the police officers and the paramedics. In the meantime, the results of the independent autopsy commissioned by the parents show that Qosay died from lack of oxygen and that his body showed clear signs of violence.

To fight for clarification and justice and to support Qosay's family, the alliance In Memory of Qosay was founded by family members and people in solidarity.

And this is where you come in, because the lawyers, the autopsy and other means to build public pressure cost a lot of money! With your donation you support Qosay's parents and the necessary struggles against racist police violence.

Qosay had fled from IS to Germany in 2014 as an unaccompanied minor. He managed to bring his family to join him. But his sister Diana had to stay in Iraq. For Qosay's parents there is no greater fear than losing another child. We will also use your donations to reunite Diana with her family in Delmenhorst.

Qosay's death is not an isolated case. Since 1990, over 180 Black and of Color people have lost their lives in police custody in Germany.
    Let's stand together for justice!
